Raiola fires Man Utd, Chelsea warning after Haaland talks with Dortmund

Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund goal machine

Mino Raiola has revealed the outcome of talks with Borussia Dortmund about Erling Haaland was that the Bundesliga club want to keep the striker for another year.

Haaland is one of the most in-demand players on the market after a bright start to his career. Since joining Dortmund in January 2020, he has scored 49 goals in just 52 games. He is being viewed as a potential future challenger for the Ballon d’Or.

Given the rate at which he has progressed, many clubs are interested in giving him the next step this summer. Few suitors would be able to afford him, but Raiola recently went on a tour of potential destinations to see who could offer what.

His first stop was Spain, where he visited La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid. The former may not be able to afford him but he remains a top target for the latter.

Then, Raiola went to England, where Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked.

Dortmund always appeared unconcerned by these visits, though. The German club maintain that they will not sell the player until next summer, when his €75m release clause kicks in.

In the meantime, they can command whatever price they like – and it seems they have no intention of selling him.

Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzić says he was powerless to stop Erling Haaland’s representatives from travelling for talks with Barcelona and Real Madrid last week.

Agent Raiola has now confirmed as such, and claims that even if he disagrees with Dortmund, he has no problem with their stance.

Raiola told Sport1: “I can confirm that I was in Dortmund for talks.

“Michael Zorc made it clear to us that BVB does not want to sell Erling this summer. I respect that opinion, but that does not automatically mean that I also agree.

“BVB were very clear in their views. We are okay with that.

“There is no war between us and BVB – absolutely not! The relationship with Zorc, Hans-Joachim Watzke and [Sebastian] Kehl is still good.”

Man Utd have Haaland concern

Meanwhile, one of his suitors have a concern about targeting Haaland.

Man Utd want to reunite him with his former Molde coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – who tried to convince him to join them before Dortmund.

Since then, his price tag has risen significantly. Therefore, United are keen to avoid a repeat of last summer’s Jadon Sancho saga.

Sancho was a top target for United in 2020 but Dortmund refused to lower their €120m demands. Man Utd eventually walked away from negotiations empty handed.

According to The Athletic, United are concerned a similar story could ensue with Haaland given his large price tag. Therefore, they are also weighing up other options like Harry Kane.

United are looking for a new centre-forward as Edinson Cavani is out of contract in the summer. The former PSG striker is expected to leave and return to his native South America.
