Rangers confirm Burnley friendly

It will be the first chance supporters will have to see new manager Mark Warburton’s side in action since he and former skipper Davie Weir took charge in mid-June.

However, it may also be one of the only opportunities they get in pre-season, with a note on the official Rangers website appearing to confirm the team will play the rest of the summer warm-up fixtures in private.

In announcing the friendly match, the club statement finished by saying: “Rangers will complete their pre-season friendly programme with closed doors games in the coming weeks.”

Warburton previously worked with Clarets boss Sean Dyche at Watford and sporting director Frank McParland at his former club Brentford.

He told rangers.co.uk: “Burnley will be a good early season test for our players and I am looking forward to my first match as Rangers manager in front of the supporters at Ibrox.

“I have no doubt this game will be beneficial to both clubs as we prepare for our opening league and cup fixtures in late July and early August.

“I worked with Sean when I was at Watford and we will welcome Sean and his Burnley squad to Ibrox as we continue our planning and preparations for the 2015/16 campaign.”
