Rashford injury concerns grow ahead of Barcelona tie

Marcus Rashford TEAMtalk

Marcus Rashford’s availability is in doubt, while Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia were conspicuous by their absence as Manchester United trained on the eve of their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona.

The quartet all missed last week’s Premier League loss at Wolves and were absent at the open section of Tuesday’s session at the Aon Training Complex.

Alexis Sanchez was involved as he steps up his return to fitness, but there are questions over Rashford’s fitness after the forward started the session doing individual work following an ankle injury.

The 21-year-old missed United’s 2-1 defeat against Wolves last Tuesday with an ankle problem. The forward has been struggling with injury for the last six weeks and had to sit out both of England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers in March.

The latest injury though is not thought to be the same ankle which has been worrying him and he was back at United’s training ground on Friday and participated in a light training session.

He also trained with the main group on Saturday, but he failed to join in with the main session today as doubts over his availability to face Barca on Wednesday grew.
