Liverpool given hope of possible deal for Leipzig forward

Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have seemingly opened the door for Liverpool to land one of their top targets from the summer.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is still on the hunt for a new frontman, having allowed Divock Origi to join Wolfsburg on loan while Daniel Sturridge’s injury record remains an issue at Anfield.

Leipzig attacker Timo Werner has been linked with a move to Merseyside for some time but it looked as if reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich would land the player – until now that is.

Leipzig’s president, Oliver Mintzlaff, has denied that Bayern are keen, paving the way for Klopp to swoop for the 21-year-old next summer.

“We had a pleasant lunch and dinner with FC Bayern, with Mr Rummenigge and Mr Hoeness. We talked about everything,” Mintzlaff told German broadcaster Sport 1.

“But we did not talk about Timo Werner. Therefore there is no enquiry or offer.”
