Tottenham ready to spend big for superstar attacker with Crystal Palace man the Plan B in double £68.4m transfer assault

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has plans to bring in two attackers before the transfer window closes as he looks spend the windfall generated by Harry Kane’s sale.

The talismanic frontman departed Spurs earlier this summer to join Bayern, whom he scored for and provided an assist on his Bundesliga debut on Friday night. But replacing his goals for Tottenham is an uneviable task with Kane regarded as one of the elite goalscorers of the modern era.

Nonetheless, it is a job that Postecoglou and Co must address, though the Spurs boss insists his exit is something they have been planning for all summer.

They started their season’s opener at Brentford last week Richarlison leading the line and with new captain Heung-min Son, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski in behind.

Options off the bench, however, are pretty weak with only Manor Soloman capable of adding another dimension. Clearly in the remaining days of the window, it is a situation that Spurs need to address.

First up, Tottenham want to add another centre forward and links have grown in recent days to Gift Orban, with talks accelerating over a €30m deal in recent days.

With hopes growing that a deal for the Nigerian can be done, focus is now switching to another addition in their attack in the three positions in behind.

And according to the Independent, top of Tottenham’s wishlist is Belgian attacker Jeremy Doku.

Tottenham ready to make Doku bid

The Rennes winger is highly-regarded in the game and seen as an elite star in the making. Having made his senior debut at 16 for Anderlecht, he moved to France in summer 2020 for a fee of €26m (£22.2m).

Now rated at €50m (£42.8m), Doku scored seven times and provided four assists in 35 appearances last season.

The player has been the subject of interest from Manchester City and West Ham. But it is Spurs who seemingly lead the way amid claims they are planning a huge bid that will come close to Rennes’ valuation.

And while highly-rated by Rennes, they would find any significant offer difficult to turn down. Postecoglou and Co, however, would need to act fast amid claims Pep Guardiola is readying a move of his own after seeing efforts to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham come to nothing.

However, the report does claim Tottenham have a Plan B in mind should a move for Doku fail.

And the player in question is Crystal Palace‘s England man Eberechi Eze, who himself has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame. Moving to Selhurst Park from QPR in summer 2020, Eze scored 10 times, adding four assists from 40 appearances last season.

A talented ball carrier, Eze has many admirers and is tipped to add to his solitary England cap, earned in the 4-0 win over Malta in June.

Palace, though, would be loathe to let Eze leave. Having recently seen another star man, Michael Olise, the subject of strong interest from Chelsea, the Eagles dug their heels in and managed to convince the star to sign a new deal.

The 25-year-old’s deal at Selhurst Park, however, does only have two years left to run and there could be an opportunity there if Palace don’t manage to convince him to sign an extension.

However, Doku remains their top choice and deals for both he and Orban will likely set Tottenham back a combined €80m (£68.4m).
