Real Madrid weigh up shock move for Chelsea midfield star

Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Mason Mount’s situation at Chelsea, according to reports in Spain.

Mount has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the summer signings of Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech.

He started 32 games in the Premier League last season, and although he has still managed three of a possible four starts this term, could find his role under threat as the season progresses.

There were rumours that Mount was unhappy about the added competition for his place, although they have since been denied.

However, fresh reports from Spain suggest that Mount will not be short of suitors if he does decide to pursue a long-term future away from Chelsea.

According to Don Balon, Real Madrid are weighing up a potential move for the England international. Florentino Perez watched the Three Lions’ game against Belgium hoping to see Jadon Sancho – who he is considering as an alternative to top target Kylian Mbappe – but instead it was Mount who took centre stage by scoring the winner.

Therefore, the Madrid supremo is now considering a bid for Mount in the future. However, the report warns that the 21-year-old will not come on the cheap.

It is not clear whether Madrid would be able to guarantee Mount more regular gametime than he gets at Chelsea.

Lampard sets Mount record straight

Last month, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard insisted that Mount – whom he also managed during a loan spell at Derby – still has a big place in his plans.

After describing the rumours that Mount wanted to leave as “strange”, he explained how he hopes the midfielder will raise his game to keep his place in the lineup.

“I saw the story about Mount, I know it was fabricated by someone. It was a strange angle,” he said.

“I know that with the young players in the team and players come in then the players should and hopefully will raise their levels. I will pick the team on how they perform every week. Everyone should be positive.”

Mount has scored once in the Premier League so far this season.
