Real Madrid open talks with Mourinho over Bernabeu return

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is in talks over a return to Real Madrid this summer, according to a report.

Spanish publication Ok Diario claims that Real chiefs have reached out to Mourinho’s entourage to gauge interest in a possible return to the Bernabeu.

Zinedine Zidane resigned as manager of Los Blancos less than a week after helping the club capture their third consecutive Champions League title.

Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp and Joachim Low have all been touted as possible successors to the Frenchman, however Mourinho is a new name on the list.

President Florentino Perez is believed to be the one who came up with the idea to reach out to Mourinho, who managed Real between 2010-2013.

A report in the Daily Telegraph last month suggested some leading figures at Manchester United are unhappy with the Portuguese coach’s methods – and suggest next season will prove his most important one yet at Old Trafford.

As such, this summer is likely to prove Mourinho’s most important in the transfer window yet. The club will reportedly fully get behind his plans to radically overhaul what they feel is an under-performing squad.

United have so far completed the signings of £52m Shakhtar midfielder Fred and £17.4m Porto defender Diogo Dalot.
