Real Madrid protagonists at war over Liverpool targets, claims fanciful report

Mo-Salah-Sadio-Mane-Liverpool-1

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez are at odds over which Liverpool player to sign this summer, claims a fanciful report in Spain.

The notorious Don Balon claim that Real chief Perez wants to make a move for Reds striker Mo Salah, while coach Zidane favours a move for Sadio Mane.

There has been some noise around Salah this week with former Egypt assistant coach Hany Ramzy claiming that Salah had received a “really good” proposal from the Spanish giants in the months leading up to the meeting between the sides in the Champions League final.

Ramzy added that while Salah did consider the offer, the Egyptian star chose to remain at Anfield as he was “comfortable” working under Jurgen Klopp.

Taking to Twitter, however, Salah’s chief representative, Ramy Abbas, has insisted that the winger has had no such discussions with any ex-coach.

“Mohamed never discussed any career plans with any ex coach,” Abbas wrote.

Last week Football Insider reported Liverpool were weighing up ending any further interest in Senegal international Mane by handing him a bumper new contract.

Mane, who moved to Anfield in the summer of 2016, has become irreplaceable in Jurgen Klopp’s team having scored 77 goals in 161 appearances for the Reds.

Indeed, his stock has risen immensely in the past two seasons, when he has helped fire Liverpool to Champions League glory and come up with several match-winning contributions.

Such performances have reportedly led to interest from Real Madrid.

The winger’s current terms – extended in November 2018 – expire in the summer of 2023, by which point Mane would have turned 31.

Therefore, it is said that Liverpool believe another extension will put paid to Madrid’s hopes of landing the player on a big-money move.
