Real Madrid are watching on as Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden’s frustrations with boss Pep Guardiola grow, according to a report.

Foden has become a rising star in the City ranks and he has made a blistering start to his fledgling career. Indeed, the 20-year-old already has two Premier League winners’ medals to his name.

The England international has also made 92 appearances for his boyhood club. What’s more, he played a vital role in all six of City’s Champions League group stage games this season.

According to the Daily Mirror, however, Foden’s ‘frustration’ is beginning to rise.

More specifically, the midfielder feels that he should be earning more starts under Guardiola.

Foden’s last Premier League start came in October against Arsenal. Indeed, since then, he has only played 172 minutes of Premier League action in 10 games.

On Saturday, meanwhile, he came on in second-half stoppage time in the 2-0 win over Newcastle.

As such, the newspaper claims that the lack of ‘exposure’ is holding Foden back. What’s more, ‘fears are growing’ that he may have to move on to be fully appreciated.

In particular, Foden reportedly felt frustrated at remaining on the bench in the dire 0-0 derby draw with Manchester United.

As for where he could move to next, the newspaper adds that Madrid are monitoring his situation closely.

The Daily Mirror says that while fears are growing at City, the Spanish giants have taken encouragement about Foden’s lack of playing time as they weigh up a potential swoop.

Madrid chiefs have scouted him for a number of years. However, they now feel that the time could be right to move in and offer the player a more regular role.

What’s more, Los Blancos have the midfielder on their radar regardless of the uncertainty over Zinedine Zidane’s future.

The head coach continues to face questions about his future, with Madrid second in LaLiga. Nevertheless, Foden will remain a target for the Spanish giants whoever is in charge.

Foden has scored 20 goals and assisted 16 others so far for City.
