Imperious Man Utd target criticised by Karim Benzema’s agent

Raphael Varane TEAMtalk

Reported Manchester United target Raphael Varane has come under fire for his performances this season as Real Madrid’s season goes from bad to worse.

All is not well behind the scenes at Real and Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Valencia has added to the tension at the Bernabeu.

Carlos Soler scored three penalties as the hosts, who were winless in four games, romped to a 4-1 win with Varane scoring an own goal.

Zinedine Zidane’s men sit four points off the LaLiga pace and the French boss blasted his players after the Mestalla debacle.

“We started the first half-hour well,” said Zidane.

“After the goal we fell apart and changed the dynamics. Everything happened to us; three penalties, an own goal. It is difficult to understand.”

“After their first goal we dropped our level a bit and stopped doing everything we had been doing well. We did everything wrong, it’s difficult to try and understand our performance.

“There’s no excuse for how we defended today. After the first goal our heads dropped and our problems kept building. Right now we are not defending as well as we used to.

“I don’t think Valencia were better than us tactically today but I’m the one who needs to find solutions.”

And central defender Varane, who was recently linked with a summer move to Old Trafford by The Atheltic, has been publicly criticised by one of Karim Benzema’s representatives.

Varane scored a shocking own goal and was generally inept as Real fell apart.

Benzema’s agent Karim Djaziri said: “After the Manchester City game he is a shadow of himself.”

France national team boss Didier Deschamps defended the player on Monday afternoon: “Everyone can have a bad game, but in other games they play at their best level.

“They have to play every three days, their team lost, he is a defender conceding goals. He may be responsible for a goal, but I know what Raphael is capable of. ”

Benzema attack on Vinicius Jr

Karim Benzeman TEAMtalk

Meanwhile, Benzema was in the headlines recently after a spat with Vinicius Jr was made public.

Benzema launched an extraordinary attack on his Real Madrid team-mate at half-time in the Champions League draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.

As the Real players gathered in the tunnel at the break Benzema was seen talking to Ferland Mendy.

The incident was filmed by Telefoot, with Marca claiming Benzema was telling France team-mate Mendy not to pass to Vinicius Junior.

The Real Madrid striker did not mention the Brazilian by name. But Football Espana says “the body language, tone of the comments and manner in which they were said means that was not necessary”.

Benzema covered his mouth with his hand. But his comments were in ear-shot of Thibaut Courtois with Vinicius Junior just metres away.
