Reason why Man United passed on €60m defender deal revealed

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly gave up on signing a Juventus star due to budget restrictions, a report claims.

The Daily Telegraph claimed last month that Mourinho had been left a frustrated figure, with his attempts to get the United board to sign Alex Sandro failing.

It was also stated that Red Devils chief Ed Woodward would seal a deal for the Brazil international when Mourinho gives him the go-ahead.

The latest report from the MEN claims that Mourinho made Sandro his main left-back target, with Kieran Tierney of Celtic a back up option.

However, United apparently decided against any deal for Sandro because they wished to stick to a strict budget.

Journalist Duncan Castles claims that United refused to pay the €60million that the Serie A champions want for the Brazilian, despite chasing the player since the turn of the year.

In the end, Fred was the only major arrival at Old Trafford, with Lee Grant and Diogo Dalot also arriving but seen more as depth players.
