Relaxed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Manchester United transfer denial

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer TEAMtalk

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has denied the feeling of frustration over the club’s summer recruitment.

United have added Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James to their squad, but are still believed to be chasing two more signings before the August 8 transfer deadline.

It’s been widely reported that Man Utd chief exec Ed Woodward has missed the last leg of United’s pre-season tour in a bid to get a couple of transfers over the line.

The Telegraph claim that Woodward will need to speed up his move for a centre-back as a result of Toby Alderweireld’s release clause, which expires on Friday.

Solskajer’s number one defensive target is Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, but Brendan Rodgers has again stated that the Foxes are in no rush to sell the England man and in fact have no need to sell the former Sheffield United defender.

Time is ticking on the deal because if they cannot get Maguire done by this Friday, long-term target Alderweireld’s release clause of £25million expires. The feeling is that Spurs chief Daniel Levy will then inflate that fee to £40million.

Elswhere, Yahoo Sport France, report that United’s first bid for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe has been rebuffed as United struggle to get players in that will strengthen their squad.

Solskjaer though claims to be in patient mood and is not panicking – just yet.

“It will take time for any player to adjust to Man United. Apart from me! It took me six minutes in the first game,” the Norwegian told a news conference, ahead of Saturday’s International Champions Cup clash with Spurs in China.

“I’m very happy with Wan-Bissaka and James but we’ve got be patient. It’s a long haul and it’s very important that we get the right ones in.

“We can’t just jump on a different path when you hit a hurdle. I’ve not had a frustrating feeling at all.

“I believe in these players. I’m sure that we could do well. But it’s both short-term and long-term, so when we’re working on something, that means we’ve identified something that could improve us.

“If it’s to be or not to be, we will see.”

The United boss also confirmed that Romelu Lukaku, who is the subject of interest from Inter Milan, will not face Tottenham due to an injury. The Belgium forward has not kicked a ball on United’s pre-season tour, but United insist his injury is not serious.

“Lindelof is fine and Lukaku won’t be fit, no. He has been working with a physio the last few days so I don’t think he will make this one, no.

“He got injured in training. It is not too bad, if it was worse we would have sent him home,” added Solskjaer.
