Relentless Arsenal ‘active’ in late attempt to upgrade squad; West Ham starter becomes top Man Utd target – Women’s Transfer News

Jonas Eidevall has confirmed Arsenal Women are on the lookout for ways to strengthen their squad after links with Mary Earps amplified, prompting rumours Man Utd could replace her with Mackenzie Arnold, while Friday’s Women’s Transfer News also has an update about Chelsea’s pursuit of a French midfielder.

EIDEVALL BREAKS SILENCE AS ARSENAL INSIST FOR EARPS

Arsenal will continue their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps beyond next week’s transfer deadline, which means Marc Skinner’s side have turned to West Ham’s Mackenzie Arnold as a potential replacement.

It is well documented that Earps is hesitating over a new contract with Man Utd. Since her current deal expires at the end of the new season, they risk losing her for free in 2024.

Arsenal have already failed with a bid for Earps this summer, which would have broken the women’s transfer record for a goalkeeper. Now, the Evening Standard has confirmed that Jonas Eidevall’s side will continue pursuing the England number one even if Man Utd refuse to sell before the September 14 deadline.

Nevertheless, Eidevall has said today: “Individuals we never comment on.

“We remain active in the transfer market. There might be business to be done, but no comment on that specific individual.”

Earlier this week, Eidevall named right-back as one position Arsenal are aiming to strengthen. He has also hinted there is another role they would like to upgrade if possible.

MAN UTD MAKE ARNOLD TOP REPLACEMENT TARGET

If Arsenal end up signing Earps, even if that is next year, then a possible replacement for Man Utd could be Arnold.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Australia international has become the top target for Man Utd to succeed Earps after proving herself in the WSL with West Ham.

Like Earps, Arnold will be out of contract next summer. Furthermore, West Ham have signed two goalkeepers this summer to prepare for her future exit.

The reality of the Earps situation is sinking in for Man Utd, so they might need to bring in an established new number one next year, rather than simply a decent deputy.

Links with Phallon Tullis-Joyce from OL Reign have been reiterated in the report, but Arnold has more experience on the international and WSL stage, so could be what Man Utd are looking for.

PSG PREVENT CHELSEA SIGNING MIDFIELDER

Chelsea are long-term admirers of France midfielder Grace Geyoro, but she is set to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

According to L’Equipe, Geyoro is ready to commit to the long term with PSG. Talks have been ongoing for several months and a positive conclusion is in sight.

The report confirms Chelsea have never lost sight of Geyoro, who has been on their radar for a significant length of time. However, after spending her whole career with PSG so far, no change seems to be due for the 26-year-old.

Yesterday, Geyoro told reporters: “It’s going really well.

“Everyone knows the connection I have with PSG. There, we had a lot of discussions, very good discussions. There will be very good news to come.”

Meanwhile, Romain Balland has reported that the French side are on the verge of recruiting a centre-back who performed well at the World Cup, plus an attacker who was not at the tournament.
