Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that Gareth Bale will be staying at Real Madrid in the most extraordinary turn of events of the summer.
Bale looked set to be frozen out by the Frenchman after being pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of Eden Hazard, but failed to secure a move away before the English transfer window closed.
Bale was a shock starter in Real’s La Liga opener against Celta Vigo, and made an instant impact by providing the assist for Karim Benzema’s opener.
The performance seems to have inspired a complete change of heart from Zidane, who said after the game: “Bale is staying.
“Everyone in the squad is positive and he is part of that.
“I always intended to start him today, regardless of the injury to Eden Hazard.
“What is important now is that we concentrate on the season ahead.”
