Rennes have completed the signing of Jeremy Doku from Anderlecht, wrecking Liverpool’s bid to sign the Belgian wonderkid.
Doku had two years left on his deal with Anderlecht and had emerged as a solid Liverpool target.
It was claimed the Reds considered making the 18-year-old Anderlecht’s club-record sale, ahead of Youri Tielemans.
However, after their signing of Diogo Jota, Liverpool’s interest was shelved for now.
Doku – by many accounts – is the man Jurgen Klopp reportedly saw as the long-term heir to Sadio Mane in the Reds attack.
Capped already by Belgium, the teenager is expected to have a stellar career in the game.
However, Liverpool’s decision to take a backwards step has let Rennes in.
They announced on Monday night the teenager has signed a five-year deal, joining for an undisclosed fee.

Rennes are believed to have paid in the region of €25m for the 18-year-old.
The Ligue 1 side are gearing up for the Champions League this season and the capture of Doku will be seen as a huge coup.
Doku replaces Leeds-bound Raphinha
Doku’s arrival at Rennes will give the transfer green light for Brazilian winger Raphinha to join Leeds.
The former Sporting Lisbon man has been a big success at the Ligue 1 side, but will join the Premier League new boys for a fee worth an initial €17m.
Raphinha holds an Italian passport so the move won’t be complicated for Leeds to finalise. His move is expected to be rubberstamped by Leeds in the coming hours.
