Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has an ideal contract and salary scenario in mind should he move to Inter Milan, according to a report.
The Dutchman looks likely to leave Anfield at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Indeed, there has been a distinct lack of reports citing progress in negotiations about an extension. What’s more, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has opted not to disclose details of the situation.
Should Liverpool lose Wijnaldum, though, other top clubs will have the opportunity to sign one of the Premier League champions’ most reliable players.
Barcelona showed interest in the 29-year-old this summer but the impact of the pandemic restricted their finances. More recently, however, reports have named Inter Milan as a potential suitor.
According to FC Inter News, the Nerazzurri have already ‘activated’ their move for Wijnaldum. As such, they have registered interest and are in regular contact with the player’s representatives.
However, the report has also revealed Wijnaldum’s demands to the Serie A club should he wish to move there.
The midfielder will reportedly ask for a four-year contract and a salary consisting of ‘top figures’. However, FC Inter News notes that it remains unclear whether Inter will be able to meet those requests.
Although, Christian Eriksen’s departure could play a key part in finding such funds. Should Inter find a buyer for the unsettled midfielder, they could free up space on their wage bill.
Eriksen has struggled to fit in under Antonio Conte, who has said that he is unwilling to change his system to suit.
Wijnaldum has proved one of Klopp’s best signings at Liverpool, despite often flying under the radar. Indeed, he played more Premier League games than any of his teammates last season.
This term, meanwhile, he has already racked up 21 outings.
Klopp warned about Mane treatment
Meanwhile, one pundit has warned Klopp not to get on the wrong side of star winger Sadio Mane.
The Senegal international vented his frustrations at being substituted midway through the 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace.
And against the backdrop of Mohamed Salah’s recent comments, Garth Crooks has said that Klopp must be careful to keep another of his star players in check.
