Report: Two RB Leipzig stars and three more on Liverpool wish list

Liverpool hope to announce the captures of five new players this summer, after a report claimed to have unearthed a list of Jurgen Klopp’s targets.

The Reds are expected to have a busy summer in the transfer market with Klopp shaping his squad ahead of what he hopes will be a return to the Champions League.

Liverpool need to beat Middlesbrough in their final home game of the season this weekend to ensure their place among the elite, and at the same time securing only their second top-four finish since 2009.

And Miguel Delaney’s exclusive in the Independent claims the Reds will sign two left-backs as part of their busy summer plans.

The report says Klopp is ‘confident’ of signing Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon following the Cottagers’ failure to win promotion to the Premier League; the west London club were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Reading in the play-off semi-finals on Tuesday night.

Ryan Sessegnon: In demand

In addition to a deal for Sessegnon, the German also hopes to sign both Timo Werner and Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig and Andrew Robertson from Hull City. Virgil van Dijk remains Klopp’s top target, but Delaney claims that those close to the Dutch defender now feel Chelsea are his likeliest destination.

Should a deal for Van Dijk fail, Klopp will look to sign another centre-half, with Michael Keane of Burnley and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson alternative targets.

The deal to sign Sessegnon is especially interest, given the Reds’ struggles at left-back this season.

Although James Milner has filled in admirably, Klopp’s decision to spend what could be £15million on the 16-year-old looks a bold decision – particularly as a deal for Hull’s Robertson has also been reportedly agreed.

Delaney writes:

‘That area has been a problem position for the side for a long time and precedes the current manager, but the club feel they can finally solve it with the signing of £15m Sessegnon, despite competition from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

‘Given he is just 16 years old, however, Liverpool are also looking to bring in Robertson of Hull City – a deal that should be even easier to strike now that Marco Silva’s side have been relegated to the Championship.

‘A raid on Bundesliga revelations Red Bull Leipzig is also expected, with Klopp keen on 21-year-old forward Werner and 22-year-old midfielder Keita.’
