Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is understood to have denied telling Phil Jones to stop talking while the pair were filmed on Sky Sports on Sunday.

In a clip that went viral on Sunday and Monday defender Jones and Woodward were both filmed sat in the stands at the London Stadium.

West Ham fans were taunting United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a chorus of, ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’.

And the common consensus was that Jones was muttering a similar thing: “Sacked in the Morning.”

Which prompted Woodward to retort: “We are on camera, stop!”

However, the Daily Mail claim “sources close to Jones dismissed those suggestions on Monday night”.

The tabloid also report that “Woodward is adamant” that he was talking to another member of staff and instead of saying: “We are on camera, stop!”

He instead asked: “Has he been booked, Diop?’ following a foul by the West Ham man.

Meanwhile, Woodward was asked about Manchester United’s plans to add a head of football to the staff at Old Trafford at today’s meeting with investors.

Woodward said: “Regarding the speculation around the Head of Football, we are continually reviewing and looking at the potential to evolve our structure on the football side. Much of the speculation around this type of role revolves around recruitment – an area that we’ve evolved in recent years.

“As we’ve already mentioned, we feel the players we’ve signed in the summer demonstrate this approach is the right one.”
