Revealed: Why two deadline-day deals involving Liverpool collapsed
The reasons behind Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi’s failures to secure deadline-day moves away from Liverpool have been revealed.
Reds midfielder Markovic has been blamed after his proposed transfer to Belgian outfit Anderlecht fell through.
The Serbian star has flopped since his arrival at Anfield for £20million in 2014 and has been sent out on loan to four different clubs since.
The 24-year-old moved to Anderlecht in January and, after recovering from fitness issues, eventually made eight appearances and scored once.
The Belgian side outfit were keen to snap up Markovic for a cut-price £2.9million but the deal fell through on deadline day and that was down to the player himself, according to Anderlecht boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck.
He said: “Our president and sports director did everything to convince Markovic. They waited until Liverpool lowered the price. They almost did a crazy effort for the player, but it wasn’t enough. It’s his own fault that the deal fell through.”
Meanwhile, Origi’s father has opened up on his son’s failure to secure a move away from Anfield this summer.

Origi was told that he could leave the Reds this summer, having spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg, but interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Valencia did not materialise into a move.
His dad Mike Okoth, however, revealed that the 23-year-old was refusing to leave on loan again, while Liverpool’s high valuation of the player also thwarted the chance of a permanent exit.
“Dortmund and Valencia showed good interest but they couldn’t match what Liverpool wanted and there was no way Divock was going out on loan again so he will have to fight for his place,” the former Kenyan international said.
“In football, you shouldn’t live in past glory but always fight to be the best and to be relevant on the day.
“[Divock] has seen the difference between Liverpool and other clubs and will obviously know that he has to fight hard to remain in Liverpool which is a bigger club.
“Three months in football is a long time and Divock is already doing well in training and the coach is happy. Let’s wait and see what will happen between now and the winter window.”
