Revealed: Why Yerry Mina signing might just happen for Liverpool

Liverpool’s chances of signing Colombia World Cup star Yerry Mina have been dismissed by the Liverpool Echo.

“Expect Mina to stay,” report the local paper, who suggest that Jurgen Klopp is not looking for another centre-back for next season.

The Reds may not be actively looking for a defender, but the suggestions from Spain are that Mina may be available on a season-long loan deal with Barcelona looking to clear their quota of non-EU players and in the bargain get some experience for Mina.

Marca report Barca want to sign Arthur Melo from Gremio and his arrival would mean Barca would have too many non-EU players in their squad and would have to sell or loan one out – namely Mina, who only played only six times last season.

The Echo meanwhile claim “Mina hadn’t previously been linked to Anfield prior to the World Cup”, which is wrong because the club were first linked to the 23-year-old in May.

AS cited journalist Ignacio Miguelez, after he told the Spanish program El Chiringuito that Barca were keen for Mina to get some experience in Europe and that Liverpool would be his destination for next season.

Fotomac report that Liverpool have registered their interest in the centre-back, who only joined Barcelona in January from Brazilian side Palmeiras.

The Turkish outlet suggest Liverpool are trying to hijack Fenerbahce’s move for the player.

Fanatik also report that Fenerbahce have held talks over a loan move for the Colombian, but now the Reds are trying to move in on the player and after his towering display in Moscow last night Klopp may well be looking at him.

Mina, who was a rock against England, signed for Barca from Palmeiras on a five-and-a-half-year contract for a fee of £10.5million in January and he has a €100m release clause in his contract.
