Rivaldo tells England what they must add to win World Cup
England eased their way past Hungary in last night’s World Cup qualifier to solidify their place at the top of Group I – and Rivaldo ranks them as one of the favourites at Qatar.
“The English national team was close to claiming the Euros title and have recently proved how good they are and how well they have developed, so I’m expecting them to be a very strong opposition at the Qatar World Cup next year,” Rivaldo told Betfair.
“I believe they have a good chance of reaching another major final very soon. They deserve to be among the favourites like Brazil, France or Italy.”
Rivaldo thinks that England need to be braver in the next tournament and try to be more proactive with the ball in the 90 minutes.
“You also have to be a bit bolder and go for the win instead of waiting for things to occur in extra time and penalty shoot-outs.
“Brazil and France have recently won important titles based on a personalised and offensive football style and I still think that’s the best path to become a winner.
“Teams like Brazil, France or Italy tend to be strong in those decisive moments of tournaments which helps them to get titles. On the other hand, England have been failing consistently for a long time and that happened again on Euro 2020, so they still have a bit of work to do.
“Playing with attitude and personality in those matches can be key for the English team to finally return to international glory.”
