Liverpool star ‘contacted’ by Madrid, ponders dream role under Pochettino

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has received contact from Real Madrid officials and is considering a move to the Spanish capital, according to a report.

Firmino is one of the longest-serving players in Jurgen Klopp‘s team and remains a vital part of his manager’s plans.

Indeed, he earned a new five-year deal in 2018 that runs until the summer of 2023. According to Todofichajes, though, Firmino has begun to have thoughts about an exit.

The source claims that ‘different emissaries’ from Madrid have contacted the Brazilian in recent months.

But while that negotiations have so far failed to progress into serious talks, the 29-year-old‘s viewpoint could soon change.

Firmino’s chances of signing for Los Blancos have ‘increased’, amid Mauricio Pochettino’s links to the club.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane eased the pressure on his post with a 3-1 win over Barcelona in Saturday’s El Clasico.

However, doubt reportedly remains over his future, amid a run of two defeats in three games. What’s more, Madrid bosses have reportedly sounded out former Spurs boss Pochettino as a successor.

As such, Firmino could now be further enticed by the prospect of moving across Europe.

Meanwhile, Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly earmarked Firmino as one of his top targets.

Madrid chose not to spend on any major new acquisitions in the recent transfer window, owing to the pandemic’s financial cost.

However, Todofichajes outlines that the summer of 2021 will be ‘full of signings’ in the Spanish capital.

Firmino tipped to force Anfield exit

What’s more, the source claims that Firmino could force his way out of Anfield in the coming months.

The report says that it would only take a ‘little’ force from the Brazilian to force Liverpool to negotiate.

Todofichajes also claims that Firmino’s fellow attackers – Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah – want to leave.

Firmino levelled the scores in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Anfield on Saturday.
