Rodrigo denies pressure of Leeds price tag; highlights Bielsa importance
Rodrigo Moreno says it is an honour to be Leeds United’s record signing, and is looking forward to a “special game” against Manchester United.
The Spain international was an important player for Valencia in the last few seasons. And while expectations are high, he says he feels no extra pressure about being Leeds’ most expensive signing.
“It’s an honour for me,” said Rodrigo while on international duty – having notched an assist in Spain’s draw with Germany. “When I arrived in Valencia I was at the time the most expensive.
“Of course it’s not extra pressure, it’s something natural, something that is part of my professional life.
“I just want to work hard, feel comfortable and show my football and have a great performance.”
Rodrigo is ready for his second chance in the Premier League after a forgettable spell with Bolton in the 2010-11 season.
The former Real Madrid youngster is a much more dangerous player now, and will be looking to prove himself against the very best.
And the 29-year-old revealed who he is most looking forward to playing against.
“In the Premier League there are a lot of teams, it’s special because it’s very competitive.
“We always want to play against Liverpool, Tottenham, Man City, but for me the special game is Man Utd.
“I played against them with Benfica and Valencia. Playing against my national team-mate (David) De Gea will be special for me. I already scored some goals against him in training.”
Bielsa an ‘important factor’ in signing
Rodrigo also admitted that the lure of playing for Marcelo Bielsa was a big factor in his decision to join.
“It was an important factor of course,” he added. “I’ve had the privilege of working with great coaches, Luis Enrique, Marcelino.
“When you work with good professionals you are always near to achieving your personal goals.
“For me (Bielsa) was an important factor. It will be a big challenge with him, to push myself to the limit. I’m prepared and I want to start as soon as possible.”
