Real Madrid star James Rodriguez has spoken of his irritation at claims he is overweight and unprofessional.

The Colombia star has been linked with Manchester United this month having fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu.

Rodriguez made his first start under coach Zinedine Zidane on Sunday night as Real dropped more points in the Primera Division title race with a 1-1 draw at Real Betis.

Afterwards he addressed accusations of of a lack of professionalism.

“The talk really p***** me off,” Rodriguez said. “My people know how I act and that I always seek to take good care of myself.

“I’m a professional but what’s been said about me going out a lot at night is a lie. It really p***** me off that people doubt me and say I’m looking fat.”

Rodriguez was also recently involved in a high-speed pursuit by police when he was reportedly clocked travelling at 125mph.

The 24-year-old denied driving at such speed, adding: “I was not going as fast as everyone says.

“I had music playing at a high volume. I’m not stupid, if I would have seen them I would have pulled and apologised – people make mistakes.”
