Rogers joins Falkirk on loan

Rogers recently signed a contract extension with Derek McInnes’ team after winning Dumbarton’s Player of the Year award during a temporary stay with them last season.

Now he will return to the SPFL Championship with Peter Houston’s Scottish Cup finalists, who had been without a first-choice keeper after Jamie MacDonald left for Kilmarnock.

Irish U21 Rogers told Aberdeen’s website he hopes the move can enhance his international prospects.

He said: “Going out on loan last season was good and I did quite well. This, however, is a new challenge.

“Falkirk are a big club who have big expectations and had a good season last year. They will be looking to kick on this year.

“I feel at this stage of my career it is important to try and play on a regular basis and going to Falkirk will hopefully give me that opportunity.

“It is up to me to go and do well then to come back next season to Aberdeen and challenge for that number one jersey.

“I am excited about the year ahead as I have forced my way into the starting XI for the Ireland U21s. I was number two for a few years.

“Hopefully I can keep my spot and get some caps under my belt, which will be a great experience. I feel my career is going in the right direction and I just need to keep working hard.”
