Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is reportedly working on January departures for Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero, according to a report.

The 30-year-old centre-back is out of contract next summer, but United do have an option to extend that by 12 months. As yet though there has been no indication United will exercise that option.

Instead, The Athletic claim talks are ongoing at Old Trafford with a view to getting Rojo a move to another Premier League club.

Two Spanish clubs have registered enquiries, according to the report, but Rojo, “would prefer to stay in England”.

Sheffield United are keen on a loan move, claims The Sun. However, Newcastle also have an interest in the Argentinian central defender as Chris Wilder looks to stop the rot at Bramall Lane.

Rojo has not played for United for a year after joining Estudiantes de la Plata in January.

He has been training at Carrington, despite a minor calf problem and is fit to play, claims the source.

Meanwhile, back-up goalkeeper Romero is in talks with an unnamed Spanish club over a loan deal, according to the report.

Romero, 33, has been at Old Trafford since 2015 but only ever acted as understudy to David de Gea. He is also out of contract next summer and will unlikely be offered an extension.

Romero furious

Talks over a deal with the Spanish club are set to cover the seven months left on his United deal.

Romero and his wife were left fuming after a move to Everton collapsed in the summer.

Taking to Instagram before the transfer window shut, Romero’s wife, Eliana Guercio, hit out at United’s treatment of her husband.

She wrote (via the Daily Mail): “Sergio Romero worked hard for his club. Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.

“He helped the team reach 4 finals/semi finals and then he was left on the bench only to lose them all.

“It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!’.”
