Edin Dzeko’s second-half goal was enough to see Roma narrowly overcome Shakhtar Donetsk in the last-16 of the Champions League as they won 1-0 on the night.

The Serie A side scored the only goal of the match on 52 minutes when Dzeko beat the offside trap to latch onto a through ball and toe poke the ball past Andriy Pyatov in the Shakhtar net.

The visitors had a player sent off near the end of the match when Ivan Ordets pulled Dzeko to the ground.

Dzeko’s effort meant Roma were through to the quarter-finals on away goals having lost the first leg in Ukraine 2-1.
