Roma target Man Utd man after losing interest in Mahrez

AS Roma have already started looking at alternatives to Riyad Mahrez and Juan Mata has emerged as a target, claims a report in Italy.

The Rome-based outfit are looking for a wideman this summer and Leicester City star Mahrez was the first name on the agenda of their director of football Monchi.

The Serie A club have made several offers for the Algeria international which have been rebuffed, with the Foxes holding out for €40million for the 26-year-old.

The player is understood to have already reached an agreement with the Giallorossi, but the Premier League side are unmoved in their stance and will not allow the 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year move for a cut-price fee.

And now according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Mata is one of the players Roma have set their sights on.

Spain midfielder Mata, 29, is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford but he has developed into one of Jose Mourinho’s key men.

The former Chelsea midfielder is well settled in Manchester – a place he referred to as home after United won the Europa League last season.

He scored 10 goals and claimed six assists in 42 appearances in all competitions last season.

Borussia Dortmund winger Emre Mor is also believed to be on Roma’s wanted list.
