Transfer expert predicts Liverpool could turn to ex Prem winner after Klopp

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has tipped Liverpool to consider former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as a successor to Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp has enjoyed an illustrious spell at Liverpool since joining in October 2015.

The German has won the Premier League and Champions League, but his journey has not ended yet. Indeed, his current deal runs out in 2024.

Nevertheless, there will come a time when Liverpool have to move on from one of the best managers in their history.

Doing so will prove no easy feat, with Reds legend and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard already in the frame.

However, Romano told Anfield Watch that he would like to see Liverpool consider Conte or Massimilano Allegri.

“At the moment I really don’t know,” he said when asked about Klopp’s departure from Anfield.

“They are not planning for this because they are happy with Jurgen and he is more than part of the club so there is nothing on this at the moment.

“I would love to see Steven Gerrard just because he is doing amazing work at Rangers and this kind of opportunity would be amazing as a football fan, in general, to see Steven Gerrard manage Liverpool.

“Also why not an Italian manager? I’d love to see Massimiliano Allegri or Antonio Conte but I think [Liverpool] would go for a different style.

“After you have Klopp you can’t go for a similar manager, you have to change, because in my opinion Klopp is the best and that’s why it would be really difficult to find a new manager.”

Conte, Allegri on different pathways

Conte made his name in his native Italy in spells with Juventus and the national team before moving to Chelsea.

He proved an instant success in the Premier League, winning the title in his first season at Stamford Bridge. However, his allure soon wore off and he got the sack at the end of the 2017/18 season.

The 51-year-old is currently back in Italy with Inter, who are battling for the Serie A title this season.

Allegri is also well-known for his association with Juventus, but he is currently out of work since leaving the Turin club.
