Romelu Lukaku’s Everton contract talk takes new twist

Romelu Lukaku will not sign a new contract at Everton, according to reports.

The Belgium striker, who scored his 22nd goal of the season in the win over West Brom, was believed to be closer to penning a new deal last week.

The striker, who has been linked with a return to Chelsea, reportedly agreed a five-year deal, £110,000 a week deal that will see him become the club’s highest earner, pocketing £6million per year.

The Daily Mirror did also claim that the deal will also include an elite club release clause, but now the contract which his agent Mino Raiola previously said was 99.9% certain, has been cast into doubt.

Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur has suggested that Lukaku’s new deal is not imminent after the player told Belgian site Play Sports he was not close to extending his deal after the win over WBA.

Last month Ronald Koeman was hopeful the 23-year-old would extend his contract, which expires in June 2019.

Koeman said: “It is still not signed. I heard it is close.”

Lukaku signed for Everton for a club-record £28million from Chelsea after successful loan spell in July 2014 and has since scored 65 goals for the club.
