Man Utd man actively looking to leave after having ‘terrible’ time

Sergio Romero TEAMtalk

Sergio Romero is having a “terrible” time at Manchester United and is looking to “accelerate” his return to Argentina.

The United stopper was omitted from United’s pre-season clash with Villa last weekend.

Dean Henderson started at Villa Park with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praising the returning keeper: “I thought Deano showed his authority back there and he played like a proper Man United goalkeeper.”

It leaves Romero with little prospect of first-team action this season with Henderson, 23, battling with David de Gea for the No.1 jersey.

The 33-year-old failed to make an appearance in the Premier League last season, but played nine games in the Europa League before being benched for De Gea in the semi-final defeat to Sevilla.

And now Argentinian site El Intransigente via Sport Witness has a story claiming Romero is having a “terrible” time at Old Trafford and that could “accelerate” his return to Racing.

It’s understood Racing have been toying with a transfer all summer and club president Victor Blanco has spoken to the local press about a potential move.

“A player who comes from European football doesn’t come to make an economic difference and always has the doors open, as is the case with Sergio. You have to come for the shirt, for the feeling of belonging and for wanting to give something back to the club that saw you grow up,” he said.

Romero left Racing when he was just 20 to try his luck in Holland with AZ Alkmaar, after coming through the juniors ranks at the Buenos Aires club.

“Some boys lived difficult moments or didn’t live the ideal time at the academy. Perhaps, it’s a time when they can come to enjoy what they couldn’t as kids,” added Blanco.

Romero has been interesting Premier League clubs too.

As per the Daily Express, Aston Villa, Leeds and Chelsea ware all reported to be pondering swoops for him last week.

Either way, Sky Sports’ transfer expert Kaveh Solhekol says Ed Woodward is willing to sell the Argentine keeper.

“Manchester United willing to listen to official offers from Sergio Romero – no official contact from Aston Villa or Chelsea,” Solhekol said on Sky Sports News.
