Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo still has a huge soft spot for Manchester United.

The Portugal superstar, who himself has been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford in recent months, believes his Portugal team-mate Andre Gomes will be a Manchester United player before the start of next season.

The Barcelona midfielder could be on the move in the summer after failing to make a significant impact in La Liga since his move from Valencia in 2016.

Gomes has been linked with United and with Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick both looking likely to depart in the summer, Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for central midfielders.

And, according to Don Balon, Ronaldo expects Gomes to sign for the Reds and he has told his compatriot that Old Trafford is the perfect destination for him.

Gomes is under contract at Camp Nou until 2021, but his bit-part role under Ernesto Valverde will most probably see him move on after the World Cup in Russia.

Gomes was reportedly offered to Inter Milan in October, claimed OK Diario.

The Nerazzurri were understood to have made an offer to the player, having met with his agent Jorge Mendes.

Barcelona wanted the initial loan arrangement to include a €35million obligation to buy next summer, but Inter are only thought to have offered €20million and the deal never materialised.
