Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for Juventus as they upset the odds to complete a remarkable second leg turnaround against Atletico Madrid.
The visitors were on the back foot throughout the first half as they were forced to do what they usually do best – dig in deep. They were given a scare after an early goal from Georgio Chiellini was disallowed following a soft Ronaldo foul on Jan Oblak.
But Ronaldo did put them ahead with a trademark header on 27 minutes, and repeated the trick to make it all square on aggregate in the opening minutes of the second half.
From there the second half was more even, although still, Atletico offered little in front of goal. The decisive moment came as Angel Correa gave Federico Beradeschi a light push in the back to concede a penalty in the 83rd minute.
From there, it was never in doubt who was going to take it, and it was never in doubt whether he’d stick it in the back of the net.
