Roy Keane rings alarming transfer warning to Tottenham over Harry Kane

Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur

Daniel Levy has been warned he may need to “take the money” over Harry Kane this summer, amid claims from Roy Keane that the striker looks likely to leave Tottenham this summer.

Kane, 27, is already a Tottenham legend despite an absence of silverware in his cabinet. Both the club’s top scorer and all-time Premier League top scorer accolades are within his grasp over the coming years. But the lure of lifting trophies has seemingly become stronger as of late. The Tottenham talisman was said to be ‘open’ to a departure according to reports a fortnight ago.

Kane then addressed the speculation while on England duty, revealing when a decision on his future will be made.

Now the voices over his possible sale are growing louder. Indeed, the Spurs striker has even pointed to Robert Lewandowski as an example. The Bayern Munich striker was largely trophyless until he reached the age of 27 – and now Kane wants the same.

Kane netted his 33rd goal for England on Sunday evening as Albania were beaten 2-0. Both Kane and coach Gareth Southgate spoke to the media after the game.

One interested observer was ITV football pundit Keane. Watching Kane’s performance, he feels the time has come for Tottenham to sell.

“He’s a professional,” the fiery Irishman said. “If you’re a top player you want to win trophies.

“It’s a big few months coming up for Tottenham, the League Cup final, can they get in the top four? Huge question marks.

Harry Kane says Tottenham needed to give something back to their fans after an embarrassing exit from the Europa League.

“Will that influence him? He’s obviously under contract, Tottenham will have a lot to say about it.

“But if you’re in his shoes and it comes to the summer, I think the guy has to move on to really win the big prizes. He’s not going to do it at Tottenham.”

Tottenham would be alarmed to hear the comments from Kane, but life without their talisman must be a fear that their fans have addressed.

Kane exit will come, Keane warns

Keane’s verdict comes at a time when Jermain Defoe also told Kane to avoid his mistakes and consider leaving the club.

“Since I’ve come away from that and gone to Rangers, I’ve seen that mentality and played for another big club, the importance of playing for that club and winning every game, that mentality, the standards and demands,” Defoe told talkSPORT.

“You have to win and bring silverware, otherwise it’s not good enough. When you actually achieve that and the feeling you get from that, wow man. I wish I had that earlier on in my career.

“If Harry Kane wants that and wants to win trophies then it looks like he has to go.

Figures of around £150million have been floated around for Kane. And in these tough times, Keane believes Spurs will find it tough to keep the player beyond this summer.

“He wouldn’t be the first player to sign a contract and then want to leave a year or so later,” Keane added.

“[Jose] Mourinho might have to say ‘’he keeps making these noises, let’s take the money and move on’.”
