Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has warned Chelsea that they will only let Kai Havertz move “if certain requirements are met”.

After starting the transfer window strongly with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Chelsea have now turned their attention to Leverkusen starlet Havertz.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has starred for Bayer since making his debut in 2016. With nearly 40 goals in the last two seasons alone, Havertz has emerge onto the transfer radar of several top clubs.

Chelsea seem to have the most intense interest at present. Reports suggest Havertz wants to move to Stamford Bridge. The German youngster is keen to work under Frank Lampard.

However, before that can become a reality, Chelsea must meet Leverkusen’s asking price. The Bundesliga club want somewhere between €80m and €100m for the 21-year-old.

And even though some claims have arisen that Chelsea are closing in on an agreement for Havertz, Voller – who has already insisted there will be no discounts for the player – is adamant that is not the case.

The legendary former Germany striker said of Havertz’s future: “No decision has been made yet.

“I’d like to repeat myself by emphasising that we’re talking about a wonderful footballer.

“There is nothing new in this regard. We have a clear and mutual agreement with him and his representatives that he can only leave if certain requirements are met. Otherwise he will stay.”

‘Havertz can lead Chelsea to title’

If Chelsea manage to get a deal for Havertz over the line, it would be a third major coup for them this summer.

The excitement brought by the additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have already led to claims they could challenge for the Premier League title next season. And according to one pundit, Havertz would be the last piece of the jigsaw to put them firmly in contention.

Former Bayer Leverkusen defender Roberto Hilbert is well aware of how good Havertz can be. He told Goal earlier this week: “I think he has a level of talent that nobody else has.

“When Chelsea sign him for the next years then I think it will be a great chance to help them win titles in the Premier League.

“That’s how good he is. He worked hard, but he is a smart and humble person. That comes from his good family unit and he will continue to work hard and improve every day.”
