Rumoured medical nudges Arsenal move for goalscoring mid towards completion despite being ‘a Liverpool man’
An Arsenal move for a player who previously declared himself a “Liverpool man” has been given a timely nudge after a deal to sign his replacement took shape, per reports.
Reports out of Germany recently claimed both Arsenal and Liverpool had opened discussions over a move to sign Frankfurt’s Jesper Lindstrom this summer.
The 23-year-old Denmark international operates primarily in an attacking role from central midfield and has bagged nine goals and provided four assists this term.
Sky Germany stated Frankfurt are ‘ready to let the Dane go’ this summer if an offer of around €35m-€40m is received. Why the Bundesliga side are reportedly ready to cash in has now been revealed.
BILD (as cited by HITC) report Frankfurt have already lined up their Lindstrom replacement and he’ll not cost a fee.
Wolfsburg’s Omar Marmoush is the player in question, with BILD claiming the Egyptian has already passed a medical with Frankfurt. Marmoush is out of contract at season’s end and can be signed for free.
In the event Marmoush is brought on board, Frankfurt – who are expected to experience wholesale change this summer – could greenlight a Lindstrom sale.
Of Arsenal and Liverpool, one might expect Lindstrom’s decision to be clear-cut if both sides table matching bids.
Indeed, the Gunners are on course to be crowned Premier League champions and will have Champions League football on offer.
However, the Sun were keen to point out Lindstrom would likely be installed as Martin Odegaard’s back-up at the Emirates, meaning he’d no longer be a regular starter.
Given the state of Liverpool’s midfield, Lindstrom could conceivably walk straight into Jurgen Klopp’s strongest eleven.
Furthermore, HITC point out Lindstrom previously declared “I’m a Liverpool man” when asked about winter window links to Arsenal. Clearly, the Gunners aren’t his favourite Premier League heavyweight.
In any case, with Marmoush potentially already having passed a Frankfurt medical, a Lindstrom exit – wherever he goes – has been given a nudge.
