Jorge Sampaoli: Former Chile coach apparently wants Chelsea job

Jorge Sampaoli wants the Chelsea job and would try to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal if appointed, according to the Sunday Express.

The newspaper claims that Chelsea have made contact with Sampaoli, who it is said would jump at the chance to take over at Stamford Bridge after quitting as Chile boss earlier this month.

Sampaoli led Chile to the Copa America title last summer, their first major trophy, and the Argentine is learning English in preparation for a move to the Premier League.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, Juventus manager Max Allegri and Italy manager Antonio Conte are also in contention for the Chelsea job, the newspaper says, while Mark Hughes is among the domestic managers to have been linked with the position.

But if Sampaoli gets the nod, the 55-year-old will apparently launch a bid for Sanchez, who played a major role in Chile’s Copa America triumph but would command a huge fee having impressed at Arsenal since his £35million move from Barcelona in 2014.

The Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, claims Chelsea will attempt to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann should Eden Hazard push to join Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
