Sanchez, Herrera explain exactly what went wrong under Mourinho

Alexis Sanchez TEAMtalk

Manchester United pair Ander Herrera and Alexis Sanchez have explained what was going wrong at Old Trafford when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

The Portuguese boss was axed in December and immediately replaced by interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Norwegian has restored a feel good factor at the club with just one defeat 13 games.

In a candid interview on BBC’s Match of the Day programme on Monday night the pair were asked about Mourinho’s reign and what has changed since the arrival of Solskjaer.

“Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world, in the way that he coaches, how he studies videos, the way he goes about things,” Sanchez said ahead of his sub appearance in last night’s 2-0 FA Cup win at Chelsea.

“But within the group there was that feeling that you were in the team, then out. Sometimes I didn’t play, then I did, then I didn’t and as a player you lose confidence.

“I’ve played football since I was five and if I have the ball taken away from me, it’s as if I lose my joy.”

Herrera, who headed the opener at Stamford Bridge, added: “Mourinho gave me a lot of things that I will always be thankful for and Ole brought the smiles.

“He gets the best from the most talented players. He speaks personally, he goes one-by-one. He knows what the club was about and he reminds [people] of [Sir Alex] Ferguson and that’s a big step that he has already made.

“I hope it continues to work for a long time, because he’s a fantastic guy as well.”
