Senegal have confirmed that Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane will miss the World Cup due to an injury he sustained in the Bundesliga.
Mane is undoubtedly one of Senegal’s most potent assets. Not only would he have been one of their most talented players, but he would have been one of the most talented at the World Cup.
The forward’s talents have been clear for years both at club level and internationally.
Of late, he has been in great form. Indeed, this season for Bayern Munich, Mane has found the net 11 times, and assisted four goals in 23 games.
His role in the Senegal side is clearly a very important one, too. In their triumphant 2022 African Cup of Nations campaign, he was their top scorer, with three goals
That haul included a goal in the round of 16, and another in the semi final. He also scored the decisive penalty during the shootout in the final.
With that being said, it is clear how important he would have been this World Cup.
However, Senegal will have to take on the tournament without their star.
Mane ruled out of World Cup
Senegal have confirmed that an injury has ruled Mane out of the World Cup. He sustained the injury in a Bundesliga game between Bayern and Werder Bremen.
Senegal had hoped that they could cope without the forward early on, and that he would recover in time for the latter stages.
Indeed, he was named in their 26-man squad, in the hopes that he would be fine to play at some stage.
However, it has now been confirmed that his injury needs surgery, and Mane can take no part in the tournament.
That will be a massive loss for the side, though they will believe they can still compete despite missing their talisman.
