Marca claim a host of Real Madrid’s senior players held a secret dinner with Cristiano Ronaldo last week.
Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and Marcelo have reportedly been so concerned that the 32-year-old is ready to quit the Bernabeu this summer that they arranged a meeting before last weekend’s game with Deportivo.
The Spanish papers claims the trio are actively trying to persuade Ronaldo to patch up his differences with the hierarchy and stay with the La Liga club.
According to reports last week, the forward wants to leave the European champions over a contract dispute with president Florentino Perez and has been linked with a return to Man Utd.
The Portugal international is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2021, but is believed to want an extension to that deal.
Ronaldo, who won his fifth Ballon d’Or last year, has seen himself drop out of the world’s top three earners and is not happy about it, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.
He currently earns €21million net per season, enough to put him fifth on the money list, but AS claimed that Perez had promised him a pay rise and having not done so, Ronaldo was upset.
Head coach Zinedine Zidane has simply urged him to concentrate only on his game.
“We know what is discussed, but what Cristiano has to do is think about playing, as always,” the Frenchman told a press conference last week.
“I just want to talk about his performance and what he can bring to the team on the pitch.
“Cristiano is a part of this club, where he belongs.”
Apparently Ronaldo, who has a £1billion release clause, wanted a new deal after the Champions League final victory over Juventus, but it’s understood Perez is not keen an open to selling him.
There have been continued rumours of Ronaldo’s unhappiness over the last six months he was apparently tempted by a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Le10 Sport suggested he was so incensed by by the accusations of tax evasion which emerged in Spain over the summer that he wanted to leave.
He was understood to br unhappy with Real Madrid’s handling of the situation after he was charged with tax evasion in June 2017.
He also revealed in court that he would like to return to England and that led to links of a return to Manchester United, but he later held talks with Madrid chiefs, who talked him out of an exit.
“I never had a problem in England, that’s why I would like to go back to England,” said Ronaldo.
However, the article claimed Ronaldo’s representatives told the Parisians that he was tempted by a move away.
PSG sporting director Antero Henrique registered his interest in Ronaldo, but told his entourage that he would only make a move if the Portuguese star told Real he wanted to leave.
