Manchester United have reportedly begun to consider Bournemouth winger David Brooks as a “serious” target, although both sides are yet to open formal negotiations.

United’s chase for Jadon Sancho has slowed in the past week, with Borussia Dortmund refusing to lower their valuation.

The Bundesliga giants want £108million, with United yet to submit a bid despite agreeing personal terms with the England international.

According to the Manchester Evening News, though, the Red Devils have had Brooks on their radar for “some time”.

Bournemouth will likely sell more players this summer after their relegation, with Nathan Ake recently joining Manchester City.

And the MEN adds that United feel they could sign Wales international Brooks for around £40million.

However, talks with the Cherries or the player’s representatives have not yet begun. What’s more, it remains unclear whether United would target Brooks as an ‘alternative’ to Sancho.

Although, should United make official contact with the south coast club, they could also make a “serious bid”.

A separate report from Sport Witness claims such a deal could develop “relatively quickly” should both sides begin talks.

The source adds that the idea of signing Brooks has progressed from an initial consideration to the player becoming a firm target.

Indeed, a deal for Brooks would be significantly easier than one for Sancho.

Reports have claimed that Juventus winger Douglas Costa and Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele are solid alternatives to Sancho, as opposed to Brooks at this stage.

BROOKS LOOKING TO KICK ON

Brooks, 23, is targeting a fresh start next season after ankle surgery pegged him back this term.

The winger initially went under the knife in July last year but further complications set him back. Although, the three-month break allowed him to return to action with nine appearances.

Indeed, he showed promise with a goal against Manchester City as the Cherries suffered the drop.

Brooks has two years left on his deal at the Vitality Stadium.
