Chelsea to let seven stars leave as next two signings are identified
Chelsea will quickly look to wrap up two more exciting transfer additions, but will let up to seven stars leave to make room, as Frank Lampard continues his Stamford Bridge revolution.
The Blues have already agreed to sign playmaker Hakim Ziyech in a £33million swoop from Ajax.
And it emerged they had also beaten Liverpool to the signing of RB Leipzig frontman Timo Werner after meeting his £53m exit clause.
And with Jamie Redknapp explaining how the addition of Werner will significantly strengthen Chelsea, the club are seemingly wasting no time on working on their next two additions.
As per the Daily Mirror, the Blues will now look to prioritise deals to bring in Ben Chilwell from Leicester and their former winger Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo.
Chilwell has become one of the Premier League’s most exciting full-backs and has missed only six top-flight games for Leicester this term.
According to The Guardian, any deal for the England full-back will cost at least £60million.
Speaking to the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Ian McGarry claims Chilwell has already made it clear to Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers that he wants to make the move.
“It’s our understanding that the interest is very much concrete, Leicester are aware of it,” McGarry said.
The player himself has also explained his situation to Brendan Rodgers with regards to his ambitions.
“Rodgers is keen not to lose the player, but the player himself is very attracted to a move to Stamford Bridge.
McGarry also revealed that Leicester are beginning to look for replacements in the event of Chilwell leaving.
The Foxes wanted to keep Harry Maguire last summer but Manchester United eventually signed him after paying £80million.
“Leicester won’t want to lose him, but they did lose Harry Maguire. It went to the last couple of weeks of the transfer window last summer.
“We understand that in regards to Chilwell’s future, Leicester are being reasonable and practical and pragmatic, and are looking at potential replacements.”
The Blues won’t stop there, however, and they are also said to be closing in on the re-signing of Boga, who left Stamford Bridge in 2017 after nine years at the club.
Key to the deal was Chelsea’s decision to place a re-sign clause in the transfer that took him to the Serie A side and it seems they are now ready to trigger that buy-back clause as they bring him in as a replacement for Willian.
The 23-year-old Frenchman has eight goals and four assists from 24 league appearances this season.
Seven to leave Chelsea
With Boga and Chilwell set to join Ziyech and Werner at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will have spent well over £160m this summer on those four signings.
And despite being inactive in the transfer market since triggering a £40m deal to sign Matteo Kovavcic last summer due to a FIFA imposed transfer ban, the club are planning to claw some of that outlay back by allowing a number of stars to leave.
As per the Mirror, Lampard will allow long-serving wingers Willian and Pedro to lead the clearout. Brazilian Willian is unlikely to be short of offers.
Pedro, meanwhile, is reported to have already selected his next club.
In addition, Chelsea also look set to cash in on Kurt Zouma, with Tottenham the latest club linked.
Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho are all being linked with returns to Italy, while Ross Barkley is another tipped to make way with a switch across London to West Ham being mooted.
