Sevilla set to move on from Konoplyanka
Stoke have been attempting to complete the complicated capture of Konoplyanka for some time but had been facing competition from Sevilla, who will compete in the Champions League this season after winning the Europa League.
Monchi, however, says the Spanish side will now move on to other targets after Konoplyanka missed a deadline to join the club.
“The chances of us signing Konoplyanka had not decreased but we set deadlines and these have not been met. There has been no agreement,” Monchi told El Desmarque.
“Today Sevilla have forgotten that option and we are working on other options that may be valid. We have reached an agreement to move on and look at other possibilities.
“Sevilla are big enough to mark time.
“We are working to finalise the squad as soon as possible but rushing does not make for good negotiators. Urgency causes you to take options without thinking or pay more money.
“We do not want to do anything we might regret. There are 11 days remaining before we start training. I ask for patience. I am calm.”
Konoplyanka admitted earlier this month that his preference was to play in the Premier League.
“My priority is to play in England,” he told Futbol 1. “That’s where I want to continue my career and I will do that.
“Maybe clubs have met with Dnipro, but I can only say what I want to do.”
Speculation suggests the future of Konoplyanka, who has also been linked with Newcastle, Tottenham and Liverpool, will be decided within the next seven days.
Sevilla coach Unai Emery would still like to see the Dnipro and Ukraine winger move to Spain but has acknowledged the risks with the deal.
He said: “Konoplyanka is an issue that has always been difficult.
“The club are still fighting, although it is a very big economic commitment. He is very good player but we must also consider the issue of adaptation to Spain, the language…
“It has an element of risk. He is very good player, but it is true that there it is risk involved.
“We are willing to assume that can be overcome if we can get a deal done.”
