Shaqiri warns why Liverpool can expect a crazy game at Napoli

Xherdan Shaqiri has warned Liverpool they face one of their hardest matches of the season when they take on Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

After victory over PSG in their first match in matchday one, Jurgen Klopp’s side face another huge test of their credentials when they tackle Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the Stadi San Paolo.

Ancelotti has already attempted to get the edge over Klopp with some cunning mind games in the build-up to the match, but one man who knows the Azzurri well is former Inter Milan man Shaqiri.

The Swiss star joined Liverpool from Stoke over the summer but spent time in Serie A with Inter prior to his move to the Potteries.

“We have to go there with confidence and it has to be our mentality to go there to win the game because if one player is not 100% sure, you cannot win there,” he told Standard Sport. “We have to go there and be confident and try and play to dominate the game and then I’m sure we can win this game.

“It’s always special to play in Naples. With Inter that time it was a big derby, they hate each other!

“Before the game, on the bus, it was hard and they have crazy fans. They are a good team, they’ve played together many years.”

Liverpool faced Napoli during pre-season and emerged as 5-0 victors – but Shaqiri, who also played for Bayern Munich earlier in his career – has told the Reds that Wednesday’s match will be entirely different.

“This game will be totally different to go there and take three points,” he added. “They are used to playing together many years now, it’s similar to Tottenham. But also in the stadium they play at home and it’s always difficult to win a game away in Naples.

“It will be a hard game.”

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Reds midfielder Fabinho could have been part of the opposition this evening with the player a summer target for Napoli before joining the Reds.
