‘Sheff Utd now just trying to keep him for the rest of this season’

TEAMtalk can reveal Liverpool are leading the chase for Sheffield United starlet David Brooks and have already made known their interest to the South Yorkshire club.

The 20-year-old winger has been a sensation for the Blades this season, going from the brink of being loaned to Chesterfield to a first-team regular under Chris Wilder.

He signed a new long-term deal earlier this year, but United are already considering agreeing new terms after he was also called up to the Wales senior squad this week.

It is understood that Liverpool’s scouts have issued glowing reports about Brooks, who they believe could a Premier League starter within 12 months and have urged the club to make a move.

Liverpool are not the only Premier League side in for Brooks, but they are confident they are in pole position and they will no doubt be encouraging their own Welsh starlet Ben Woodburn to tell him about what life at Anfield is like.

A source close the situation told TEAMtalk: “David’s progress has been staggering, from fringes of the squad to first name on team-sheet – the ambition at United is now just to keep him for the rest of this season.”

Warrington-born Brooks, who only made four appearances last term, has made 11 appearances this season and managed three assists.
