Shelvey set for medical as Newcastle agree £12m fee with Swans

Jonjo Shelvey: Set to make move to Newcastle
Jonjo Shelvey is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Newcastle on Tuesday after the Magpies agreed a fee in the region of £12million with Swansea.
Magpies boss Steve McClaren completed a £5million deal for Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet on Monday and the Magpies boss admitted he is set to make a number of new signings this month.
The 23-year-old Shelvey has been capped six times by England and has played almost 80 times for Swansea, who he joined from Liverpool in the summer of 2013.
However, having been a key figure for the Swans last season, he has not been guaranteed a starting berth this season, with boss Alan Curtis admitting on Monday that the club would consider approaches for the player, who has also been linked with Crystal Palace this month.
Curtis said: “If a firm offer comes in for him then it’s something the club would probably consider.”
And Newcastle have wasted little time in firming up their initial interest by making a firm enquiry for the player, with their bid of £12million accepted by the Swans.
