Simeone, Marca pay tribute to Kieran Trippier’s impact in Madrid

Kieran Trippier TEAMtalk

Kieran Trippier has been hailed by Diego Simeone and is “the face of a new era” at Atletico Madrid, according to Marca.

The 28-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the LaLiga outfit and joined last month for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £20million.

Trippier revealed that the chance to play for Simeone – the most successful coach in Rojiblancos history – was key in the England defender’s decision to move to Spain.

And the praise has been reciprocated by Simeone after Trippier assisted Atletico’s goal in the 1-0 win over Getafe.

“He was good and that meant that it was a good game,” Simeone said after their opening LaLiga game.

“Although Trippier showed encouraging performances in our pre-season, it is not the same in pre-season as when you play league matches.”

“He played very well with depth, quality and precision. His cross to Morata was great and he found a specialist like Morata.”

Trippier provided the perfect cross for Alvaro Morata to head past David Soria and Spanish paper Marca claim he is “the face of a new era” at the club.

Trippier, who has replaced Juanfran, “fit like a glove” into Simeone’s side, and suggest he could be a key man with Simeone’s plan to place the emphasis on his full-backs this term.
