Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson wants the club to sign Aston Villa star John McGinn this summer, a report claims.

The main subject of United’s desire appears to be Leicester and England defender Harry Maguire, with United understood to have submitted an opening £70million bid earlier this month.

United have, of course, brought in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka so far this summer and now have two weeks to finalise their business as they look for a successful 2019/20 campaign.

And according to The Sun, former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ‘lobbying’ for the club to sign 25-year-old midfielder McGinn.

Ferguson is apparently good friends with McGinn’s grandad Jack, and he apparently believed that the Scotland international would be the perfect signing to resolve United’s lack of ‘energy and goal threat’.

Villa though are apparently after £50million for their prized midfielder, which is believed to be the asking price for another United target in Sean Longstaff.

A number of midfielders continue to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, such asChristian Eriksen, Ivan Rakitic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Longstaff.
