Leeds, Aston Villa among six Prem clubs in hunt for £30m striker

Leeds United, Newcastle and Leicester City are among six Premier League clubs ready to battle for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer, claims a report.

Edouard has been a standout player for Celtic in his three years in Scotland, and has started his fourth campaign in Glasgow no differently, with four goals in four games.

His form has seen him heavily linked with a move away from Celtic. And according to The Sun, his destination could be the Premier League.

The tabloid claims six clubs south of the border are considering bids for Edouard this summer. Celtic value him at around £30m, despite their departure from the Champions League.

The Sun point to the presence of scouts from three clubs at Celtic’s most recent league match, against Dundee United, to give a clue as to who is interested.

Leicester sent representatives to observe the French striker in action. Of course, Edouard is no stranger to Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers, who initially took him to Celtic.

Edouard impressing scouts

Newly promoted Leeds also sent scouts to watch him, as they look to strengthen their frontline. They have also agreed a deal to sign Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia.

The third club to scout Edouard was Everton. But The Sun add that Aston Villa, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are also in the running. And Edouard’s agents are aware of the competition.

While Celtic want to keep Edouard, the report speculates that a big contract offer could tempt the 22-year-old away.

In fact, reports last week suggested that Villa would be the first to make a move. They are willing to offer a big wage package to convince Edouard, who may be reluctant to join a team that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

But it was a lack of goals that led to their struggles; Edouard could be the man to restore their proficiency in attack.
