Sky journalist sees no reason why Everton can’t sign £75m Man Utd target

An Italian journalist has tipped Everton to rival Manchester United for the signature of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegal international is one of the best defenders on the planet, and could be on his way out of Naples this summer, despite his contract lasting until 2023.

There has already been talk of a £75m agreement with French giants Paris Saint-Germain, which would give Koulibaly the chance to return to the country of his birth, but Manchester United also continue to be linked.

It would come as a major surprise, then, to see Koulibaly end up at Everton – but Sky Sport Italia‘s Francesco Modugno believes there is a chance the defender could reunite with Carlo Ancelotti.

“Koulibaly? Ancelotti has found his strength and quality,” Modugno told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, via Napoli Magazine.

“The owner of Everton is very wealthy. We’re talking about a solidity such that you can afford certain investment.

“He (Koulibaly) has an important market. The Premier League may be the most likely destination.”

At 28 years old, Koulibaly is still in the prime of his career, although his value may drop over the next few seasons due to his age.

Whether Everton have a genuine interest in the player remains to be seen – especially given that it would likely take a club record fee to sign him.
